ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency records major breakthroughs after foiling international and domestic drug trafficking operations across several states.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it intercepts cocaine, tramadol, ketamine, ecstasy and cannabis concealed in everyday items and commercial shipments between late December 2025 and early January 2026.
In a statement issued Sunday in Abuja, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi says operatives at courier firms in Lagos seize illicit drugs hidden inside coffee sachets and book parcels destined for the United Kingdom and Zambia.
At the Apapa seaport, officers discover 31.5 kilogrammes of cocaine aboard the merchant vessel MV Aruna Hulya, arriving from the Marshall Islands. The ship’s master and 21 crew members, all Indian nationals, are arrested. “These arrests bring the total number of suspects linked to the cocaine seizure to 22,” Babafemi says.
In Oyo State, NDLEA arrests a notorious drug distributor, 65-year-old Fatima Ilori, known as “Mama Kerosine,” after linking her to 238.4kg of skunk cannabis in Ibadan.
“She is arrested alongside another suspect during an intelligence-led operation,” Babafemi adds.
