ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has transferred 450,000 Pregabalin capsules to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for forensic investigation and regulatory action.
The drugs, concealed in 60 cartons and intercepted on the Kano–Hadejia highway, were transported without documentation or lawful ownership. NDLEA Kano Commander, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, said the handover underscores the 2024 memorandum of understanding between NDLEA and NAFDAC.
“This exercise reaffirms our commitment to inter-agency cooperation under Brigadier-General Buba Marwa’s leadership in tackling dangerous and unregistered medicines,” Idris-Ahmad stated.
NAFDAC’s State Coordinator, Kassim Idrissa-Ibrahim, who received the capsules on behalf of Director-General Prof. Christiana Adeyeye, praised the seizure as “a powerful demonstration of regulatory partnership.”
In her message, Adeyeye said: “This handover represents more than the transfer of evidence. It symbolises the strength of our joint resolve to protect Nigerians from harmful pharmaceuticals.”
She assured that NAFDAC would subject the capsules to rigorous forensic analysis and pursue all necessary legal actions.
Both agencies reiterated their determination to disrupt the trade in unregistered medicines, safeguard public health, and reinforce national drug security.
