ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its campaign against illicit trafficking, recording major successes in a nationwide drug crackdown that led to multiple arrests and the seizure of large quantities of narcotics across several states.
The operations, conducted between June 8 and June 12, underscore the agency’s growing efforts to dismantle drug networks through intelligence-led enforcement and routine patrols.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi said operatives intercepted drugs concealed in sophisticated ways during coordinated raids.
In Delta State, officers arrested a suspect in Ogwashi-Uku with five gas cylinders modified to conceal 2.8 kilograms of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis.
“This was followed by the arrest of two notorious dealers at Kasuwan Katako area of Gombe State. They were caught with three big blocks of skunk that weighed 2.738kg,” the statement said.
The agency also intercepted 6,000 tramadol pills along the Zaria-Kano Road and arrested two suspects in Kwara State transporting 304 kilograms of compressed skunk cannabis in a Toyota jeep.
One of the largest seizures occurred in Taraba State, where operatives raided a warehouse in Maihula village, Bali Local Government Area, recovering 63 jumbo bags containing more than 1,121 kilograms of cannabis sativa.
In Abuja, patrol teams along the Gwagwalada expressway seized thousands of tramadol and pregabalin capsules, molly tablets and codeine syrup from a suspect.
Lagos operatives also recovered 1,102 kilograms of Ghana-sourced Loud near Alaba International Market.
NDLEA Chairman, retired Brigadier-General Buba Marwa, commended personnel across Rivers, Kano, Kwara, Delta, Gombe, Lagos and the FCT commands for their commitment.
He emphasised that sustained supply reduction efforts, alongside public sensitisation campaigns, remain crucial to combating the drug menace.
