LAGOS, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intensifies its nationwide crackdown, intercepting major drug consignments and arresting multiple suspects attempting to smuggle narcotics to Europe and beyond.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday confirms that operatives seized tramadol and opioids at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, arresting 37-year-old Friday Ehianuka en route to Rome.
“Ehianuka confirmed he was to be paid in Euros upon successful delivery,” Babafemi says.
In a separate operation, officers arrest Christian Agbonhese with 28,470 opioid pills concealed in winter jackets. Additional seizures include cannabis shipments from the United States and methamphetamine bound for New Zealand.
Across states including Kano and Lagos, officials recover over 21,000 bottles of codeine syrup and large quantities of cannabis.
NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa urges sustained vigilance, stressing the importance of ongoing anti-drug campaigns.
