ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s drug enforcement agency dismantles forest-based drug warehouses and destroys more than 75 tonnes of cannabis in coordinated raids across five states, intensifying its crackdown on drug trafficking networks.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducts the operations between December 2 and 5 in Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, arresting multiple suspects and seizing vast quantities of illicit drugs.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday says operatives destroy 54,300 kilograms of cannabis in Asin-Ekiti forests, with additional seizures in Omuo-Ekiti leading to arrests. Significant recoveries also occur in Ondo and Edo States during forest raids.
“Following actionable intelligence, our officers targeted drug warehouses concealed in remote locations,” Babafemi explains.
Beyond forest hideouts, officers intercept cannabis consignments on highways in Niger State and the FCT, including synthetic variants such as Colorado. Lagos also records major market seizures, including large quantities of “Canadian Loud”.
In total, several suspects are arrested, while selected drug samples are retained for prosecution. NDLEA says the operations form part of a broader strategy to disrupt supply chains and dismantle organised drug syndicates.
Alongside enforcement, the agency expands War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaigns in schools nationwide, underscoring a dual approach of enforcement and prevention.
