LAGOS, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted cocaine concealed inside a traditional wooden mortar and a specially modified backpack destined for China and Italy, exposing the increasingly sophisticated methods used by international drug trafficking syndicates.
The agency announced the seizures on Sunday as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle transnational drug networks attempting to smuggle illicit narcotics through Nigeria’s export channels.
In a statement shared on X, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said officers uncovered one cocaine consignment hidden inside a locally made wooden mortar commonly used in Nigerian homes for pounding yam and grains.
The shipment was destined for China.
A second consignment, destined for Italy, was discovered concealed in the false bottom of a backpack hidden among lace materials.
“Beware of every parcel you’re given to deliver. Remember the key word for liability is possession!” he cautioned.
