LAGOS, Nigeria – The NDLEA Lagos airport arrest has resulted in the interception of a suspected international drug courier who allegedly excreted 100 wraps of methamphetamine after arriving at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) from Uganda.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
According to the agency, the suspect was arrested following intelligence-led surveillance by anti-narcotics officers shortly after arriving at the Lagos airport.
Investigators said the suspect, a former commercial motorcycle rider in Lagos, allegedly joined a transnational drug trafficking syndicate in search of better financial opportunities.
The agency disclosed that officers placed him under close observation after suspecting he had ingested illicit drugs before travelling.
During the observation period, the suspect allegedly excreted 100 wraps of methamphetamine, confirming intelligence reports received before his arrival.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the illicit drugs were swallowed in Uganda before the suspect boarded a flight to Nigeria in an attempt to evade airport security screening.
Commenting on the arrest, Babafemi said the case illustrates the dangers and consequences of participating in international drug trafficking.
“After 15 years of working as an okada rider in Lagos, this individual decided he needed to forcefully upgrade and change his social status by joining a transnational drug trafficking organisation,” the statement said.
“That dream has not only crumbled but is ending in premium tears following his arrest at the Lagos airport by NDLEA officers after excreting a whopping 100 wraps of methamphetamine he ingested in Uganda.”
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling drug trafficking syndicates and prosecuting offenders under Nigeria’s drug control laws.
