LAGOS, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a Lagos-based drug kingpin and seized more than 1.7 tonnes of cannabis in a sweeping nationwide operation targeting major narcotics networks.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday confirmed that 42-year-old trafficker Frank Chijioke Ibemesi, also known as Chisco Bee, was captured in Isolo after weeks of surveillance. Ibemesi, who runs Franc CJ Ibemesi Nig Ltd and Daisy Garden Hotel, was apprehended in the early hours of Saturday.
Following his arrest, operatives raided a warehouse linked to him, recovering 42 jumbo bags and four cartons of Loud, weighing 1,762.8kg, alongside foreign currencies including $11,600, £2,000, €2,200 and 50 Canadian dollars.
In Osun State, NDLEA officers intercepted a drug syndicate operating within the Orita-Apeje and Araromi-Okeodo forest reserves after days of tracking their movements. Officials confirmed the seizure of 11,135kg of cannabis, the arrest of seven suspects, and confiscation of two trucks.
Further seizures included: 1,902.1kg of skunk in Edo, 68kg of skunk and 3.15kg of methamphetamine in Ogun, 396,000 tramadol capsules in Yola, and Over 900kg of Loud in Lagos
NDLEA Chairman, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.), praised officers for their resilience and reiterated the agency’s commitment to a balanced strategy combining aggressive interdiction with nationwide drug-education campaigns.
“I commend our officers for their professionalism across all formations,” he said, urging them to sustain efforts under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) programme, which intensified outreach across schools, worship centres, and workplaces in six states.
