LAGOS, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrests an alleged supplier of illicit drugs to bandits operating in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, as nationwide operations yield major drug seizures.
NDLEA spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday says the suspect, Mohammed Sani, also known as Gamboli, is tracked through intelligence-led operations and arrested at his hideout in Anguwan Fadama, Kuta. “Three weeks after escaping arrest, the notorious supplier has been apprehended,” Babafemi says.
He reveals that operatives earlier raided the suspect’s residence on November 20, recovering 471.8 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis. The suspect evaded arrest at the time but was later traced and detained on December 11.
In parallel operations, NDLEA intercepts 907 pills of tramadol, tapentadol, cocodamol and other controlled substances concealed in containers of black soap and clothing destined for the United States, Canada and Sweden.
The agency also records major seizures across several states. In Abia, operatives uncover a clandestine codeine syrup factory with 9,015 bottles weighing over 1,100 kilograms. Additional arrests and seizures are reported in Enugu, Oyo, Ondo, Edo and Gombe.
At the Apapa Seaport, NDLEA intercepts a container carrying 170,000 bottles of codeine syrup during a joint operation with the Nigeria Customs Service.
Commanding officers, NDLEA Chairman Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) urges sustained efforts combining supply reduction and enforcement.
