KANO, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) after he was found to have excreted 127 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.388 kilograms.
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, noting that Ejiofor, who arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, was placed under observation following credible intelligence linking him to a major international drug trafficking network.
“Ejiofor excreted a total of 127 wraps of cocaine after being monitored for several days. Fifty-eight wraps were hidden in his underwear, while another 69 were recovered during medical observation,” Babafemi said.
According to the NDLEA, the suspect, who owns boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, is part of a wider transnational drug ring recently uncovered through coordinated raids across several states and airports.
The agency added that operatives intercepted three consignments bound for the United Kingdom at Lagos courier firms containing 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine and tramadol disguised as vitamin C and glass ceramics.
In a related operation, NDLEA officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, arrested Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, an Italy-based businessman, with 3,700 tramadol pills and 2,600 tapentadol tablets hidden in food items.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the operatives’ “relentless professionalism” and reaffirmed the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign to prevent youth involvement in narcotics.
