ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s telecom regulator orders operators to compensate subscribers for poor network service, reinforcing consumer protection measures.
The Nigerian Communications Commission in a statement on Sunday says affected users will receive airtime credits based on usage patterns in impacted areas.
“Subscribers should not bear the full burden of service disruptions,” says NCC spokesperson Nnenna Ukoha.
The directive targets Mobile Network Operators and infrastructure providers, including tower companies responsible for network systems.
Operators are also mandated to reinvest fines into infrastructure upgrades to improve service quality.
The NCC notes that telecom services are critical to economic activity and social interaction, warning that poor performance affects productivity and public confidence.
The commission pledges continued regulatory enforcement to ensure accountability and improved service delivery.
