NASARAWA, Nigeria – The Nasarawa State Government approves ₦13 billion to construct one kilometre of road in each of the state’s 13 local government areas, a move aimed at boosting rural connectivity and grassroots development.
State officials announced the decision during a ministerial briefing in Lafia, highlighting infrastructure delivery as a key achievement of the current administration.
Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Aminu Muazu-Maifata, says Governor Abdullahi Sule empowers councils through financial autonomy and a structured framework that monitors fund usage and project execution.
“We jointly agree to deliver one kilometre of road in every local government, and ₦13 billion is approved for the projects,” Muazu-Maifata says. He adds that 30 per cent of the funds are already released from state savings, allowing construction to commence at different stages across councils.
The commissioner reveals that local governments collectively save over ₦4 billion, reflecting what he describes as a culture of fiscal discipline encouraged by the governor. Further disbursements, he says, will sustain project momentum until completion.
Beyond road construction, the state commits ₦80 million monthly to the State Pension Bureau to clear gratuities owed to retired local government workers. Governor Sule also continues to advocate full financial and administrative autonomy for councils nationwide.
