ABUJA, Nigeria – Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has appealed to resident doctors not to proceed with their planned strike, assuring them that payments are underway.
Speaking on Arise Television, Salako said allowances had already been processed through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
“As early as this evening, the allowances should start dropping. The money has entered the IPPIS account,” he explained.
His comments followed a fresh 24-hour ultimatum by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), whose 10-day deadline expired on September 10 without resolution.
NARD is demanding the disbursement of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund, settlement of five months’ salary arrears, and other entitlements.
Salako acknowledged the grievances but insisted dialogue remained the best approach. “We recognise their concerns and are engaging with them.
These processes take time, but the government is committed to lasting solutions,” he said.
The minister also noted broader challenges, including inadequate hospital power supply, requiring longer-term interventions and private partnerships.
