BORNO, Nigeria – Multiple bomb explosions hit Maiduguri on Monday evening, triggering panic among residents just hours after security forces repel coordinated insurgent assaults on the city’s outskirts.
The blasts strike near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital gate, Monday Market and a post office close to the State Specialist Hospital shortly after Ramadan fast ends. Emergency responders evacuate injured victims, though authorities have yet to confirm casualty figures.
Police spokesman, Deputy Superintendent Nahum Daso Kenneth, says bomb disposal teams and joint security operatives are deployed. “Residents are advised to remain calm and avoid affected areas while assessments continue,” he states.
Earlier, suspected Boko Haram fighters launched pre-dawn attacks on communities in Konduga Local Government Area. Residents report heavy gunfire and explosions around 12:35 a.m., forcing mass evacuations. Maiduguri Rocked by Multiple Bomb Blasts After Insurgent Attacks
“We heard two loud explosions followed by gunfire. People ran in different directions,” one resident says.
Security forces, including the Nigerian Army and Air Force, repel the attacks in Konduga and Damboa.
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum condemns the violence as “barbaric and inhumane,” linking the surge to intensified military operations in insurgent strongholds.
