LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed several businesses across parts of Lagos over persistent noise pollution and failure to comply with environmental regulations.
The agency announced the enforcement action on Wednesday, saying the affected establishments are located along Satellite Town, Ikotun-Idimu Road, Ejigbo and Egbe Road.
According to LASEPA, the closure follows a series of monitoring exercises and repeated warnings to the businesses which failed to address environmental violations.
Facilities sealed include Power Exploits Ministry International, Kafe Mall, Mingles Hotel, Ojei Golden Gate and Fernando Global Products Limited. The affected organisations comprise churches, hotels, entertainment centres, malls and a manufacturing company.
Authorities say the establishments breached environmental directives, particularly those relating to excessive noise emissions and non-compliance with mandatory environmental standards.
The agency warns that noise pollution remains a serious public health concern in a densely populated city like Lagos.
General Manager of LASEPA, Babatunde Ajayi, says the enforcement action aims to protect residents and ensure compliance with environmental laws.
“Noise pollution remains a serious environmental concern with adverse effects on public health, safety and general well-being. The enforcement action became necessary following repeated warnings and failure of the affected establishments to comply with regulatory requirements,” Ajayi says.
He urges business owners across Lagos to obtain required environmental permits and install appropriate noise-control systems.
Ajayi also warns that organisations violating environmental regulations will face legal consequences.
“Any individual or organisation found violating environmental regulations will face appropriate legal consequences,” he adds.
LASEPA says the enforcement forms part of ongoing efforts to improve environmental quality and safeguard public health across Lagos.
