Lagos, WaterAid Sign Partnership to Restore Ojokoro Water Works, Expand Water Supply

LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has signed a rehabilitation contract with BayRoyal International, supported by WaterAid, to restore the Ojokoro Mini Water Works in a project expected to provide reliable water supply to more than 100,000 residents.
The agreement was signed on Monday at the corporation’s headquarters in Ijora, with representatives of the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO), Ministry of Environment, Ojokoro Local Council Development Area and other stakeholders in attendance.
Managing Director of LWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, described the project as a major milestone in the state’s efforts to improve water infrastructure and expand access to safe drinking water.
He said the rehabilitation reflects the corporation’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, operational efficiency, innovation and sustainable service delivery.
“Our goal is to reposition the Lagos Water Corporation as a responsive and efficient public utility capable of meeting the growing water needs of Lagos residents,” Tijani said.
Chief Executive Officer of BayRoyal International, Mr. Owoeye Peter, assured stakeholders that the project would be completed within schedule while meeting all required quality and safety standards.
WaterAid Nigeria Country Director, Ms. Evelyn Mere, said the intervention would include civil, mechanical and electrical rehabilitation, borehole development, solar-powered systems and smart leak detection technology.
She added that the project would also support the installation of meters in about 72,000 households, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal Six on universal access to clean water and sanitation.
Stakeholders, including officials of LASWARCO, the Ministry of Environment and Ojokoro LCDA, pledged continued collaboration to ensure transparency, regulatory compliance and long-term sustainability of the project.
