LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed Ejanla Restaurant on Fola Osibo Street, Lekki, for discharging raw sewage into public drainage, a practice officials say endangers residents and the environment.
The closure followed repeated complaints of a persistent stench and deteriorating sanitation in the area.
Lagos State Commissioner for Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab confirmed the enforcement on Thursday via his verified X handle, revealing that investigations found a pumping system diverting untreated wastewater directly into the public drain network.
“Every act of environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will attract appropriate sanctions or prosecution,” Wahab said.
He urged business owners to comply with wastewater regulations and report any hazardous discharges. “We shall not tolerate enterprises compromising the health of Lagosians by polluting our environment,” he warned.
Environmental officers sealed the premises and initiated legal action against the management. The state government said the operation aligns with its zero-tolerance policy for pollution, stressing that clean water systems remain vital to Lagos’ public-health strategy.
