LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government announces plans for a 132kV electricity transmission line and a major gas pipeline to stabilise power and unlock development across the Lekki-Epe and Ajah corridor.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ikeja on Wednesday, officials say the projects target persistent outages that have constrained households, businesses and industrial growth in Ibeju-Lekki and Epe.
“When it comes to power, residents in this axis have endured epileptic supply,” says AbdulHafeez Toriola, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. “We must increase capacity to ensure full development.”
The transmission line will run from Ajah to Ibeju-Lekki (Eleko Junction), while a gas pipeline will stretch from Bonny Camp to Alaro City in Epe. Authorities say the engagement aims to educate residents, address land and road concerns, and gather feedback ahead of construction.
Property owners affected by the right-of-way will receive compensation, officials say. Olawale Ojikutu, Director of Acquisitions, Revocation and Compensation at the Lands Bureau, urges landowners to present valid titles and approved building plans. “Once a detailed inventory is taken, we will take adequate notice of every affected property,” he says.
Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources Biodun Ogunleye says the projects align with the development vision of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, positioning Lagos for a 21st-century economy powered by reliable energy.
Officials say improved electricity and gas supply will attract investment, cut costs for manufacturers and support housing expansion along the fast-growing corridor.
