LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigerian Ports Authority Police intensify security operations across Lagos port corridors to ensure safe and uninterrupted maritime activities during the Yuletide season.
In a statement on Sunday, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western Command, Mrs Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, says the command has rolled out round-the-clock land and marine patrols to deter crime and protect vessels, cargo and port facilities.
The operations cover Apapa Port, Tin Can Island Port, Lekki Deep-Sea Port, Kirikiri and Ikorodu Lighter Terminals, with marine patrols extending up to 12 nautical miles. Agbaminoja explains that the measures address increased human and vehicular movement associated with the festive period.
“Our focus is safeguarding port users, maritime stakeholders and critical national economic assets,” she says, adding that intelligence gathering and surveillance have been strengthened.
The command also boosts collaboration with sister security agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies and Port Facility Security Officers to ensure swift responses to security threats. Additional personnel are deployed to congestion-prone areas to maintain order and traffic flow.
Agbaminoja urges port users to remain vigilant and comply with security protocols. “We reassure stakeholders and the public of our commitment to maintaining safety, security and order across all port corridors during the Yuletide,” she says.
