LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has issued a stern warning to officers against extortion, harassment, and human rights violations.
Addressing senior officers on Friday at a strategic lecture, Jimoh stressed that the command would no longer tolerate misconduct that undermines public trust.
“Crime prevention must be approached with fairness and respect for human rights. No Nigerian should face undue hardship in the course of legitimate police operations,” he stated.
The commissioner condemned indiscriminate phone checks on youths, calling them unlawful and unethical. “Officers must refrain from harassing young people under the guise of phone checks. Such conduct is unacceptable, illegal, and will attract serious sanctions,” he warned.
Jimoh reminded officers that mobile devices can only be examined within police facilities and strictly for certified investigations.
The lecture, attended by Deputy Commissioners, Area Commanders, and Tactical Commanders, was part of efforts to align with Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun’s vision of professional and accountable policing.
