LAGOS, Nigeria – Police in Lagos have arrested five suspected cultists following a violent clash between rival groups in the Isashi and Onireke areas that left one person dead.
Operatives from the Lagos State Police Command stormed the area on Friday night after a distress call from residents.
According to police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, officers recovered firearms, live cartridges, expended shells, a Toyota Avalon, and laptops during the raid.
“Five suspects directly responsible for the attack were arrested during a coordinated operation,” Adebisi said.
The victims, four men, were taken to Badagry General Hospital, where one was later confirmed dead.
The suspects — Victor Christian (43), Samuel Success (29), Balogun Emmanuel (43), Wisdom Chukwuemeka (28), and Oche Job (39) — are being detained for prosecution after investigation.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh praised the quick police response and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to stamp out cultism in Lagos.
“We will not tolerate any form of gang violence. Lagos must remain safe for all,” Jimoh stated.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to ensure community peace and safety.
