Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu
LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched a Rural Health Scheme aimed at providing free medical care to 5,000 residents across underserved and hard-to-reach communities in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area.
Implemented by the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) under the Eko Social Health Alliance (EKOSHA), the initiative will deploy mobile clinics and tricycle ambulances to riverine communities three times a week.
Speaking at the launch in Agboyi Ori-Omi on Tuesday, LASHMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, described the scheme as a milestone in bridging healthcare inequality.
“The Rural Health Scheme brings healthcare directly to people’s doorsteps,” she said. “Mobile clinics will treat illnesses, conduct tests, dispense medicines, and refer severe cases at no cost.”
The pilot phase covers five communities: Agboyi Ori-Omi, Iba Oloja, Lafiaji, Okun Ajah, and Boglo.
Zamba said the state’s Health Equity Fund will provide continuous support for vulnerable households to ensure sustained access to quality care.
Traditional and community leaders expressed appreciation. Vice Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Hon. Yomi Ganiu, pledged to mobilise residents for enrolment, while the Olu of Agboyi Kingdom, Oba Monsuru Abimbola Oladega, called the project a “blessing to our people.”
Lagos Health District officials confirmed that mobile clinics will manage common ailments, immunisations, antenatal checks, and preventive health services.
