LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State College of Health Technology Students’ Union Government (LASCOHETSUG) has rejected the recent tuition hike announced by the institution’s management, describing it as insensitive to the economic hardship facing students and their families.
In a statement signed by its President, Akolade Omotuyi, and General Secretary, Favour Animashaun, the union demanded an immediate review, warning that the increment was “unfair on students” struggling with academic and personal welfare expenses.
According to the union, students observed an increment of over ₦50,000 in tuition fees, while many also complained of paying for services in the previous session that were never provided.
“It is disheartening to note that this decision was taken without consideration of the prevailing economic realities facing students and their families,” the statement read. The union urged management to refrain from compounding the financial burdens of parents and students.
Following its congress meeting on September 23, 2025, the union declared the hike unacceptable and issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the school management to revert to the old fee structure.
“Failure to address this issue within the given time frame will leave the student body with no choice than to embark on a peaceful but sustained protest that may indefinitely disrupt all academic activities on campus,” LASCOHETSUG warned.
Efforts to reach the institution’s director of public affairs and dean of students’ affairs were unsuccessful as of press time.
