LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State First Lady Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu warns young boys against cybercrime, urging them to embrace discipline, integrity and responsible digital behaviour as pathways to sustainable success.
She delivered the message on Wednesday at the Lagos Boy Child Initiative Residential Workshop, themed Re-Orientating the Boy Child to Become an ambassador, held at St Gregory’s College, Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu says the lure of quick money, amplified by social media exposure, continues to derail promising futures. While digital platforms offer opportunities, she cautions that poor orientation, peer pressure and weak moral guidance often push boys into cyber-related crimes.
“Character and self-discipline must guide your decisions both online and offline,” she says. “True leadership is built on integrity and courage.”
“From the sessions held today, I am confident you have gained valuable insights on cybercrime, productive use of social media and the importance of staying on the right path,” she adds.
“Our boys have suffered from insufficient orientation and the level of attention they deserve. It is increasingly necessary to ensure the boy child is not left behind,” she says.
Also speaking, Oluremi Hamzat, wife of the deputy governor, describes the workshop as timely, urging participants to pursue academic excellence, respect authority and uphold values that will position them as responsible leaders and positive community ambassadors.
