LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has intensified its crackdown on medical quackery, warning residents to avoid unregistered clinics and report illegal operators endangering public health.
Speaking during a sensitisation forum in Mushin, themed “The Roles and Responsibilities of HEFAMAA in Lagos State,” the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) urged citizens to verify health facilities before use.
Permanent Secretary Dr Abiola Idowu, represented by Dr Olonire Olufemi, said: “We are not enemies of health providers. We simply want compliance. Meet the standards, register your facilities, and serve safely.”
HEFAMAA showcased its QR code verification system, allowing residents to confirm a facility’s registration status and owner details instantly.
Chairman of Mushin LGA, Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, commended the campaign, describing it as “a life-saving awareness that empowers citizens to choose safe hospitals.”
Chief Nutrition Officer Richard Olusanya added, “Quackery remains a public health threat, particularly in low-income areas. We must ensure only licensed hospitals operate 24-hour services.”
The agency pledged biannual inspections and encouraged Lagosians to report unqualified practitioners and illegal training of auxiliary nurses as part of the drive to ensure safer healthcare.
