LAGOS, Nigeria — The Federal High Court sentences two men to a combined 40 years in prison for producing and distributing counterfeit alcoholic drinks in Lagos.
The convicts, Otuorimuno Nelson Aziakpono, 58, and Ikegwuonu Davidson Ikechukwu, 28, are found guilty of manufacturing, possessing and selling adulterated and unregistered alcoholic beverages.
In a statement on Monday, the case follows a December 3, 2025, enforcement operation by the NAFDAC at Ijanikin and Vespa Market, where officials uncovered large quantities of fake alcohol.

“Investigators found the products unwholesome, misleadingly packaged and unsafe for human consumption,” NAFDAC says in a statement.
The defendants face eight criminal counts under relevant laws regulating food and drug safety. The court subsequently hands down prison terms totalling 40 years.
Reacting to the verdict, NAFDAC reaffirms its commitment to protecting public health and intensifying nationwide enforcement.
Fake alcohol poses serious health risks, including poisoning and death, the agency warns, urging consumers to remain vigilant and report suspicious products.
