LAGOS, Nigeria – The Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos has inaugurated the St. Agnes Catholic Medical Centre in Maryland to provide affordable and professional healthcare for residents.
The Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, who blessed the facility at a well-attended ceremony, said: “This building will be a place of succour for those who are ill, where they can approach healthcare with confidence that they will get the best possible treatment. Compared to other facilities with the same equipment, the cost here will be cheaper in consultations, medication, and overall service delivery.”
Parish priest of St. Agnes, Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Fadairo, praised the resilience of the church community despite the financial hurdles in establishing the centre.
“We’re proud of what we have achieved. I envisage it becoming bigger and a place where everyone will want to come for quality healthcare,” he said, noting that the facility—equipped with an Intensive Care Unit and diagnostic centre—will begin operations immediately.
Parishioners expressed joy and gratitude, describing the centre as a blessing. One attendee, Mrs. Theresa Aluko, said: “This is a dream come true; at last, we have a place that will treat us well without draining our pockets.”
Another parishioner, Mr. Francis Okafor, added: “The church has truly shown care for the people. Many families will now be relieved of the burden of costly hospital bills.”
