ILORIN, Nigeria — Former Kwara lawmaker Mashood Bakare calls on the Federal Government to urgently investigate allegations that the Kwara State Government supplied arms to bandits, following claims by suspects arrested by the military.
Bakare in a statement on Sunday describes the allegations as “deeply disturbing,” stressing that the government bears constitutional responsibility for protecting lives and property. “These are weighty allegations that must be transparently investigated,” he says.
However, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, dismisses the claims as “sheer disinformation,” insisting the suspects say the weapons came from Abuja, not Kwara. “How is Abuja synonymous with Kwara?” Ajakaye queries.
Ajakaye links insecurity in Kwara to wider Sahel-driven regional instability, calling for unity rather than blame.
Meanwhile, Ifelodun Local Government Chairman, Hadji Femi Yusuf, confirms the recovery of a vigilante vehicle in Edo State, saying it was deployed to support coordinated security operations.
