KOGI, Nigeria – The Kogi State Government orders a temporary closure of schools across the state, citing credible security intelligence and the need to protect pupils, students, and teachers.
Addressing journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday, Commissioner for Information Kingsley Fanwo says the decision reflects responsibility, not panic.
“We act proactively rather than wait for avoidable incidents,” Fanwo states. “The safety of our children is non-negotiable.”
He confirms that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed security and education agencies to put protective measures in place to allow a swift and safe resumption of academic activities.
Fanwo commends security agencies for timely intelligence and reassures residents that enforcement teams are already dismantling criminal hideouts across the state.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Kogi announces that the government has fast-tracked the midterm break into the emergency closure.
In a message to members, state chairman Pastor Reuben Jimoh says schools will resume on 16 February 2026, warning proprietors against defying the directive.
Security analysts say the move reflects a growing trend of preventive school closures in response to intelligence-driven threats, as states seek to avoid attacks on educational institutions.
