KOGI, Nigeria – The Kogi State Police Command has promised comprehensive security for students and officials taking part in the National Examination Council (NECO) external examinations, which begin on Wednesday across the state.
Police Commissioner Naziru Kankarofi gave the assurance on Tuesday when the NECO State Coordinator, Thaddeus Ajabu, paid a courtesy visit to the command headquarters to discuss safety strategies ahead of the examinations.
Kankarofi said officers had already been deployed to all approved examination centres to ensure smooth and safe conduct of the exercise.
“We want parents, students and officials to be reassured. There will be adequate security throughout the examination period,” he said.
He explained that intelligence units and patrol teams had been placed on heightened alert to prevent any disruptions, particularly in rural communities where safety concerns are often higher. The commissioner said the command would maintain a visible presence around centres to deter threats and support examination officials.
Earlier, Ajabu said NECO’s visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with security agencies to guarantee full protection for candidates. He noted that this year’s external examinations required enhanced coordination due to the security challenges affecting parts of the country.
“We appreciate the proactive steps already taken by the police command,” he said. “The measures will help ensure a seamless and credible examination process.”
