KEBBI, Nigeria – The Kebbi State Government directs all public and private primary and secondary schools to resume for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The directive follows improved security assessments after the earlier closure of schools triggered by the abduction of 25 students in Zuru by suspected bandits.
In a joint statement issued on Friday, the Public Relations Officer of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Isah Ibrahim, and the Deputy Director of Academics at the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Aliyu Bagarawa, confirmed the resumption date.
The government says the decision reflects its determination to stabilise the academic calendar and ensure uninterrupted learning following the successful completion of the first term.
“All school administrators, principals, head teachers, parents and students are required to comply strictly with this directive,” the statement says.
School heads are instructed to ensure the readiness of teaching staff and facilities ahead of resumption, while parents are urged to return their children to school promptly.
A related circular informs proprietors of private schools that the first week of the term will be used to conduct outstanding first-term examinations.
Normal classroom teaching is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 12, 2026, after the completion of the examinations.
The state government warns that monitoring teams will be deployed statewide to enforce compliance with the resumption and examination timetable.
