Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf
KANO, Nigeria – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered an immediate investigation into allegations that ₦1.5 billion was illegally deducted from workers’ funds, signalling a crackdown on financial misconduct in the state’s civil service.
The directive followed concerns raised by the Nigeria Labour Congress chairman in Kano, Kabiru Inuwa, during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
Yusuf said the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Faruq Ibrahim, had been instructed to set up a committee to probe the allegations involving former Head of Service Abdullahi Musa.
“If anyone is found culpable, this administration will take decisive action and ensure full recovery of the funds,” the governor said.
He reaffirmed his government’s zero tolerance for corruption, particularly where workers’ entitlements are involved.
The governor also highlighted progress in clearing inherited liabilities, revealing that ₦32 billion out of ₦48 billion in unpaid gratuities and death benefits had been settled.
Labour leaders welcomed the probe but called for broader reforms, including salary harmonisation across state and local government workers.
The development underscores growing scrutiny of public financial management in Kano amid rising demands for transparency and accountability.
