Kano State Governor presenting the 2026 budget to the House of Assembly
KANO, Nigeria – Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has presented a record ₦1.36 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year, placing education, infrastructure and health at the centre of what he calls a blueprint for “inclusive growth and sustainable development.”
Presenting the Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development before the State House of Assembly on Wednesday, Yusuf said the proposal aims to consolidate ongoing interventions while expanding public investment across critical sectors. He stressed that the capital-heavy structure reflects his administration’s long-term development vision.
The budget totals ₦1,368,127,929,271, with ₦934.64 billion (68%) allocated to capital expenditure and ₦433.48 billion (32%) to recurrent spending. “This budget is a covenant with the people,” Yusuf said. “It is ambitious, achievable, and designed to accelerate the progress we have made.”
Education received the largest share with ₦405.35 billion (30%), followed by Health with ₦212.25 billion (16%) and Infrastructure with ₦346.28 billion (25%). The governor said the allocations underscore his commitment to human capital development, improved service delivery and social inclusion.
He added that his administration had delivered “over 80 per cent” of its development plan and will continue to scale up projects across agriculture, water supply, security, investment, commerce, tourism, climate change, youth development and women’s empowerment.
Yusuf also praised the Assembly for its “unprecedented support” and urged lawmakers to fast-track deliberations to maintain Kano’s January–December budget cycle.
