KANO, Nigeria – Kano State confirms 913 tuberculosis cases in 2025, with 720 patients completing treatment, underscoring both progress and persistent public health risks.
The figures are released as the state marks World TB Day 2026, highlighting efforts to improve early diagnosis and treatment outcomes.
Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, says the government is scaling up interventions. “Tuberculosis remains a serious challenge, but we are intensifying efforts to control its spread,” he states.
Officials warn that untreated TB spreads rapidly, listing symptoms such as persistent cough, night sweats, and weight loss. Authorities urge residents to seek early medical care.
The state also upgrades healthcare infrastructure, including the renovation of Yada Kunya General Hospital, to improve access to treatment.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is commended for prioritising healthcare, while development partners provide mobile clinics to expand outreach in underserved communities.
Health officials stress that sustained collaboration is key to reducing TB prevalence across Kano.
