KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government announces Sunday, March 1, 2026, as the start of the Eid al-Fitr holiday for all public and private primary and post-primary schools across the state.
The directive, issued by the Kano State Ministry of Education, aligns with the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar, which marks the end of the second term on Saturday, February 28.
“All day and boarding schools across Kano State commence the Sallah break from March 1,” says Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, Director of Public Enlightenment. He urges parents and guardians of boarding students to ensure children return home by early Friday, February 27, to guarantee a smooth transition into the holiday.
Education officials confirm that boarding students resume on Sunday, March 22, while day students return on Monday, March 23. The second term then runs until Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The state government warns that failure by school authorities to comply with the schedule constitutes a violation of official directives.
Commissioner for Education Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda calls for cooperation from parents and school managers to prevent disruption of academic activities.
“We appeal for strict adherence to the resumption dates to ensure stability in learning,” Makoda says.
He also thanks residents for supporting the education sector and extends goodwill to Muslim students observing Ramadan.
“We wish all pupils a successful fast and a peaceful Sallah celebration,” he adds.
