KANO, Nigeria – Police in Kano arrest three suspects and recover eight stolen tricycles in a targeted operation, marking a significant breakthrough against organised vehicle theft in the state.
The Kano State Police Command confirms the arrests follow an intelligence-led surveillance mission by officers from the Kwakwachi Division. Police intercept a suspect, Abubakar Sidi, along Airport Road on March 26 after he fails to provide proof of ownership for the tricycle he is riding.
Police spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, says investigators uncover a wider criminal network.
“We discover the suspect deceived a tricycle owner and conspired with syndicate members to steal the vehicle,” he states.
Further operations lead to the arrest of two additional suspects, Abba Babura and Babangida Haruna, and the recovery of seven more stolen tricycles traced to Jigawa State.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praises officers for “professionalism and dedication” and vows to intensify crackdowns on criminal groups.
Police urge commercial tricycle operators to remain cautious.
“We advise operators not to accept drinks or gifts from strangers and to report suspicious activities immediately,” Kiyawa adds.
Authorities say efforts continue to arrest fleeing suspects and return recovered vehicles to rightful owners.
