KANO, Nigeria – Police in Kano State arrest three principal suspects linked to the brutal killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, a crime that shocks residents and triggers statewide outrage.
The arrests follow intelligence-led, coordinated operations carried out between late Friday and the early hours of Sunday, January 18, 2026, according to the Kano State Police Command.
Police spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa in a statement on Sunday said,
“The Kano State Police Command has successfully arrested three principal suspects behind the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children,” Kiyawa says.
Investigators reveal that a nephew of the deceased confesses to masterminding the attack and leading a syndicate allegedly responsible for a series of violent crimes across parts of the Kano metropolis.
“The principal suspect admitted organising the attack and participating in other violent killings within Kano,” the police add.
Items recovered during the operation include blood-stained clothing, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club and cash allegedly taken from the crime scene.
The killings of Fatima Abubakar and her six children spark public anger and grief, prompting swift condemnation from the Kano State Government.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf describes the murders as “barbaric” and orders an immediate manhunt, directing security agencies to intensify patrols and community surveillance statewide.
“We will ensure that everyone involved in this heinous crime is brought to justice,” the governor says through his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.
