KANO, Nigeria – Kano State Government issues strict guidelines for Eid-el-Fitr celebrations following intelligence reports warning of potential threats to public peace and safety.
The Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, announces the directives on Wednesday, stressing that security remains a top priority alongside preserving cultural traditions.
“The safety of residents and smooth conduct of celebrations are our top priorities,” Waiya says, urging vigilance and cooperation with security agencies.
Authorities confirm that Durbar activities will proceed in a limited format. The Hawan Idi Durbar will be held under Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II along designated routes, while Hawan Nasarawa will take place without horses. Other events, including Hawan Daushe and Hawan Fanisau, are suspended.
The measures follow notification from Emir Aminu Ado Bayero’s palace to police authorities regarding planned activities at the Nasarawa palace.
Officials note that recent tensions surrounding the Kano Emirship have heightened security concerns, prompting stricter controls.
“All security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance,” Waiya adds.
Residents are advised to remain law-abiding and avoid spreading unverified information.
