KANO, Nigeria – The palace of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has formally notified the Nigeria Police Force of plans to hold the traditional Sallah Durbar celebrations in Kano.
In a letter dated 7 March 2026, addressed to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Kano Emirate Council outlines preparations for the cultural festivities scheduled to take place at the Nasarawa palace.
The notification was signed by the Emir’s Private Secretary, Abdullahi Haruna Kwaru, and made public by the Emir’s spokesperson Abubakar Balarabe Kofar Na’isa.
“The programme of activities for the forthcoming Sallah Durbar has been duly approved by His Highness and members of the Kano Emirate Council,” the palace states in the letter.
The celebrations are expected to feature traditional horse-riding processions including Hawan Sallah, Hawan Daushe, Hawan Nasarawa and Hawan Panisau, alongside other cultural displays associated with Eid festivities.
Event schedules and details have been shared with security agencies to facilitate adequate planning and protection.
“We hereby notify the police command and other relevant security agencies to enable them to provide the necessary security arrangements for the events,” the letter adds.
Durbar celebrations in Kano have faced security concerns in recent years due to tensions surrounding the ongoing dispute over the Kano Emirship involving Aminu Ado Bayero and Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Security agencies say they remain vigilant to ensure peace and stability during the upcoming celebrations.
