KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government has dismissed reports challenging its claim as the best-performing state in the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination.
Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described such reports as “misleading, malicious, and a calculated attempt to distort facts presented by NECO.”
He noted that NECO Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, officially confirmed Kano as the state with the highest number of successful candidates who earned five credits, including English and Mathematics.
“This remains the most credible and universally recognised yardstick for performance,” Waiya said, dismissing alternative data interpretations that ranked Kano 29th based on percentage pass rates.
He argued that states like Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi, cited in rival reports, produced fewer candidates overall, while Kano achieved a larger scale of success due to its broader enrolment.
“The outstanding performance reflects Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s reforms in education, including investment in infrastructure, teacher motivation, and student welfare,” Waiya added.
The commissioner stressed that politically motivated narratives cannot overshadow official recognition, noting that history will remember 2025 as a milestone year for Kano students.
