KADUNA, Nigeria – Security forces rescue seven victims abducted during an Easter attack on churches in Kaduna State, as operations continue to free others still in captivity.
The rescue follows a joint operation coordinated by the Nigeria Police Force, alongside the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services.
In a statement on Monday, the police spokesperson DCP Anthony Placid says the victims are receiving treatment at a hospital and are in stable condition.
The operation is launched after gunmen attack ECWA and Catholic churches in the Ariko community, killing several people and abducting others.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun orders immediate deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations) to coordinate response efforts.
Authorities say the intervention leads to the successful rescue of some victims, while efforts continue to secure the release of others.
“They are in stable condition, awaiting reunion with their families,” police say.
The attack has renewed concerns over security in southern Kaduna, following similar incidents in recent months.
Security agencies urge residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to support ongoing operations.
Analysts say sustained collaboration among security agencies will be critical in addressing rising attacks on rural communities.
