KANO, Nigeria – Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Faruruwa rescue an abducted man and recover stolen property during a pre-dawn security operation along the volatile Kano–Katsina border, the Nigerian Army confirms.
The Army Public Relations Officer, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Kano, Major Zubair Babatunde, says the operation follows a credible intelligence tip-off received at about 1:00am on Sunday, indicating the movement of armed bandits from Daurawa and Kira communities in Katsina State towards Kano. “On arrival at Ungwan Dogo and Ungwan Tudu, troops make contact with the armed bandits and engage them in a fierce gun battle,” Babatunde says in a statement. “The criminals are overpowered and forced to retreat in disarray towards Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.”
During the encounter, troops rescue a 38-year-old kidnap victim, Rabiu Alhaji Halilu, who sustains a gunshot wound to his leg while in captivity. He is immediately evacuated to the JTF Faruruwa Medical Centre, where he is receiving treatment and responding to care.
Security forces also recover three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing bandits, alongside an unspecified number of cattle believed to have been rustled from nearby communities.
Major Babatunde says troops maintain heightened vigilance in the border corridor, intensifying patrols to prevent reprisal attacks and further criminal infiltration. “The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb banditry, dismantle criminal networks and restore public confidence in security across the Kano–Katsina axis,” he adds.
The Kano–Katsina border remains a hotspot for banditry and kidnapping, prompting sustained joint military and security deployments in the area.
