JIGAWA, Nigeria – The Jigawa State Government approves ₦2.6 billion to fund the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, aiming to ensure smooth logistics and improved welfare for intending pilgrims.
The approval was announced on Wednesday following the State Executive Council meeting in Dutse, according to the Commissioner for Information, Sagir Musa.
Musa says the funds cover critical components of the pilgrimage, including international airlift, accommodation in Saudi Arabia, feeding, medical services, orientation programmes and operational logistics.
“This approval is to guarantee a hitch-free pilgrimage for all Jigawa pilgrims performing the 2026 Hajj,” Musa says.
He adds that the government remains committed to meeting all guidelines issued by Saudi authorities while ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.
According to the commissioner, relevant ministries, departments and agencies have been directed to collaborate closely to deliver an efficient and well-coordinated operation.
“Our goal is to ensure that pilgrims perform their religious obligations without hardship or unnecessary delays,” he says.
Musa notes that early financial planning allows the state to avoid last-minute logistical challenges that often undermine pilgrimage exercises.
Observers say the approval reflects Jigawa’s sustained commitment to religious welfare and administrative preparedness, especially amid rising global travel and accommodation costs.
Hajj operations in Nigeria are jointly coordinated by state pilgrim welfare boards, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and Saudi authorities.
Pilgrims typically undergo health screening, documentation, orientation and travel scheduling months ahead of departure.
The Jigawa government assures intending pilgrims that all arrangements will prioritise safety, comfort and compliance with international standards.
