JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned universities and other tertiary institutions against issuing admission letters directly to candidates, insisting that official admission letters must be obtained through the Board.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, gave the warning on Thursday, when he received a delegation from Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, during a courtesy visit to his office.
In a statement on Monday, Aina said JAMB was the statutory body responsible for issuing official admission letters to candidates seeking admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across Nigeria.
He warned that admission documents issued directly by institutions could mislead candidates into believing they had received valid offers, potentially creating difficulties during subsequent verification and processing.
The registrar urged tertiary institutions to comply with the approved admission process and guide applicants on how to obtain the appropriate documentation.
He also recalled the Federal Ministry of Education’s directive that institutions process admissions through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), JAMB’s platform for managing and recording admissions.
According to Aina, admissions conducted outside the approved system are invalid, and institutions cannot substitute their own admission letters for the official documentation required after candidates accept offers through CAPS.
He added that only admissions recognised through CAPS would be accepted for purposes such as mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The warning highlights the importance of candidates confirming their admission status through official channels and ensuring that their admission records are properly documented.
Prospective students are advised to verify their admission status through JAMB’s approved processes and seek clarification from their institutions if they receive documents that do not correspond with their official records.
