ABUJA, Nigeria – Armed security forces surround Nigeria’s electoral commission headquarters as tensions rise over a leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Soldiers and police deploy around the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday following intelligence reports of a planned protest by aggrieved party members.
The move comes after INEC removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its register as ADC national leaders, citing a court order to maintain status quo.
The dispute pits Mark against rival figure Nafiu Bala Gombe, with factions issuing conflicting directives to the commission.
INEC announces it will suspend dealings with all party factions pending court resolution.
“The commission shall not receive further communication from any group,” it states.
Security operatives restrict access to the complex, aiming to prevent unrest as political tensions escalate.
