SOKOTO, Nigeria – The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has launched an investigation into 64 constituency and executive projects worth ₦21.6 billion in Sokoto State, citing alleged irregularities.
The agency in a statement on Monday says the exercise forms part of Phase Eight of its nationwide Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking programme.
Team leader Aminu Bala says inspectors already identify substandard execution in several locations, including Kalambaina and Mabera.
“Some projects do not meet contract specifications and require immediate redress,” Bala says.
He adds that contractors are instructed to return to site and correct deficiencies, including at a science laboratory and multiple water schemes.
The projects, awarded through 14 federal agencies, are expected to have been completed, ICPC says.
“Our mandate is to assess value for money, project impact, and compliance,” Bala explains, noting that civil society groups and the media are involved in the monitoring process.
The commission says findings will determine further enforcement actions.
