Group Urges Presidency to Clarify PFIPC Controversy, Seeks Independent Probe

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Kwankwasiyya Movement has urged the Federal Government to provide a detailed explanation over the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), saying Nigerians deserve answers over reports linking the body to the 2026 budget.
In a statement issued on Saturday, by the movement’s spokesperson, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, the issue had gone beyond allegations against an individual and had become a broader test of transparency, accountability and public confidence in government institutions.
Mohammed said, “What began as a case involving an individual has become a serious test of the Federal Government’s credibility, transparency and accountability.”
“If the council never existed, Nigerians deserve to know how it appeared in the national budget, who approved the allocation and whether any public funds were released,” he said, adding that these were “questions of public accountability that require clear and honest answers.”
Mohammed said, “The administration’s response to this controversy will demonstrate how committed it is to its promises of institutional reform and responsible governance.”
“Uncertainty over the authenticity of government institutions could undermine investor confidence and damage Nigeria’s international reputation,” the statement said.
“We are calling on the Presidency to publish a comprehensive account of the facts, including how the budgetary provision originated and the measures being taken to prevent a recurrence,” Mohammed said.
The movement also urged the National Assembly, anti-corruption agencies and other relevant oversight bodies to conduct an independent investigation into every aspect of the controversy.
Reaffirming its position, the group stressed that accountability in public office remained essential.
“Public office is a public trust, and every naira appropriated belongs to the Nigerian people. The Nigerian people deserve the truth, and they deserve it without delay,” the statement added.
