ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Road Safety Corps has advised motorists travelling along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway to use alternative routes as severe traffic congestion worsens ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
In a travel advisory issued on Sunday, the agency attributed the growing gridlock to increased holiday movement and ongoing construction work along sections of the busy highway.
According to the FRSC, the Nasarawa–Azara stretch between Katari and Jere has experienced the heaviest delays, with traffic movement significantly slowed in the area.
The Corps warned that reckless overtaking, lane indiscipline and one-way driving were aggravating the congestion and increasing the risk of road crashes.
To ease traffic pressure, motorists travelling between Abuja and Kaduna were advised to consider the Kaduna–Kachia–Maraban Kubacha–Jere–Bwari–Dutse Abuja route as an alternative corridor.
The agency also urged road users to obey traffic officials, maintain lane discipline and avoid dangerous driving practices during the festive travel period.
The FRSC disclosed that its nationwide special patrol operation would commence on May 25 and continue until May 31, 2026.
More than 30,000 personnel have reportedly been deployed nationwide to improve traffic management, reduce accidents and strengthen emergency response operations during the Eid celebrations.
