Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan
LAGOS, Nigeria – The Women in Energy Network (WIEN) celebrates the appointment of Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan as the first female Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, describing it as a historic breakthrough for gender inclusion.
WIEN President Eyono Fatayi-Williams says the appointment signals growing recognition of women’s competence in Nigeria’s male-dominated oil and gas industry.
“This selection reflects merit, experience and a commitment to modernising upstream regulation,” Fatayi-Williams stated in a statement issued on Friday.
Eyesan brings over 30 years of industry experience, having spent her career at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), where she last served as Executive Vice President, Upstream.
A University of Benin economics graduate, she previously oversaw strategy, sustainability and corporate planning, and played a key role in resolving the long-running Escravos Gas-to-Liquid project dispute.
WIEN Executive Secretary Asanimo Omezi says the appointment validates efforts to expand women’s leadership across the energy value chain, pledging continued advocacy and support.
