Olugbemisola Odusote
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF) describes the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Odusote as Director-General of the Nigerian Law School as a historic breakthrough for legal education and gender inclusion.
President Bola Tinubu approved Odusote’s appointment on Tuesday, ending 62 years of male-only leadership at the institution founded in 1962.
In a statement on Wednesday, NBAWF Chairperson, Huwaila Muhammad, calls the development a defining moment for the legal profession. “Dr Odusote’s appointment is a powerful testament to the fact that excellence, dedication and competence can dismantle long-standing gender barriers,” Muhammad says.
The forum says the appointment extends beyond individual achievement, opening new pathways for women lawyers and law students across Nigeria.
According to the statement, Odusote’s emergence reinforces demands for increased female representation in leadership roles within the legal sector.
NBAWF expresses confidence that the new Director-General will deliver transformative leadership, introduce fresh perspectives and uphold institutional integrity at the Law School.
The forum adds that her leadership is expected to strengthen legal education and contribute positively to the broader justice system. “This is truly a victory for women in law,” the statement concludes.
Odusote becomes the first woman to head the Nigerian Law School in its more than six decades of existence, marking a symbolic and structural shift in one of Nigeria’s most influential legal institutions.
